September has quickly disappeared and with it so has the cooler weather. We are now well into our winter patterns with northerly winds being the norm. This has raised water temps up to 23 c in most parts of the bay. Mac tuna schools are starting to flow in along with long tail tuna in smaller numbers.
School and grey mackerel can be found in good numbers for those looking for a feed of mackerel, and there has even been some late season snapper sessions. As we move into October, a increase in pelagic activity will be happening with bulk mac tuna yet to arrive.
Small Black Marlin will also be not too far away with reports of fish being caught outside coming in over the last month. deeper in the water column various trevallys have kept anglers busy with some big golden’s about. We also scored some cracking longtail tuna to 20 kg over September which has given guests some epic battles on light tackle.
Both myself and Murray have been busy guiding over September with both boats working most days. September is always a buzz for us as he school holidays gets lots of kids out bending a rod and learning about the outdoors. A highlight over the school holiday period for me was watching 9 year old Bailey a regular guest of ours along with his Dad Paul wind in his first longtail tuna.
Is knowledge of fish species is coming along and with his Dad’s guidance he will be also learning the art of fly fishing no doubt very soon.
For Muz his highlight was guiding Ben Simm’s from Victoria onto a oversize golden trevally, the big golden would have gone 15 kg we think as it’s girth right through to its tail was incredible. Congrats to Ben on a great fish and great guiding by Murray.
Looking forward we have a busy Spring season ahead of us with a few dates left for anyone interested in some spring sportfishing. With Christmas just around the corner a gift voucher is always a great idea for family and loved ones that enjoy their fishing. Friends of HBFSF launch clothing range.
Mates of ours Benny Godfrey and Bretto Wilson have launched a new range of clothing called Aquasoul Apparel. These guys are as passionate as they get when it comes to fly fishing along with fishing in general. I have been lucky enough to be a small part of their journey and think their clothing range is fantastic and the concept is brilliant.
Here is taste of what their brand is about “Aquasoul Apparel was created on the back of Benny Godfrey’s film “Aquasoul – Two Paths One Destination. Aquasoul crewmen Bretto Wilson & Benny Godfrey share a passion for flyfishing, filmmaking and the journey where both pursuits take them. Both of them saw a place for a range of apparel & accessories that encapsulated the lives they live, and the pursuits they love.Aquasoul Apparel is a unique & evolving range suited for the Australian waterman and the environments they play and live in.
See their website for their range of clothing and also give them a ike and follow on Facebook and Instagram.
