June saw some great snapper fishing with some quality fish being caught by our guests. Targeting big fish over 80cm is something that I really enjoy this time of year. Snapper fishing is certainly a change of pace from our usual pelagic species and that first run from a snapper is something special. We have been targeting snapper on a range of techniques, soft plastics certainly proved the most effective with soft vibes, micro jigs and lucanus jigs also getting some good results.
Matching our lures with quality gear is also something we take pride in, the Shimano Terez range has been great for us matching the 15-30 lb split grip model with Stella 4000’s has been a successful combo over the winter period as it has proven a very versatile combo. Giving our guests premium gear certainly adds to a great fishing experience.
Guests enjoyed other species like mac and long tail tuna, broad bar mackerel, various cod species , golden trevally, diamond trevally, tea leaf trevally, school mackerel, painted sweetlip and more throughout June. Winter can see some big shoals of trevally on some of our reefs which can make for some exciting fishing at times.
This winter has seen some wetter than usual weather for us on the Fraser Coast but it looks to now be stabilizing into our usual winter pattern. Snapper will continue to feature throughout July and August along with big golden trevally, cobia, mackerels and winter longtail tuna.
We do have some availability left over winter, if you are looking for a quick get away from the southern states Hervey Bay is certainly the perfect location to do this. We can package up your accommodation using one of our preferred accommodation providers to take the stress out of planning your next fishing getaway. Please email us fishing(at)herveybaysportfishing(dot)com(dot)au
After doing a month or so work in both of the new vessels we have been impressed by both the 5.5 and the 6.8 Hookers. Guests have been commenting on the soft ride and dry ride of both boats with some great fish being landed on both vessels so far.
Mother Shipping 2017
We are looking at doing some mother shipping with Freedom III over the Autumn tuna season of 2017.
Freedom III is a 58ft luxury catamaran and is the perfect mother ship vessel for our waters. Anchoring the mothership in Platypus Bay and fishing off our guide boats gives guests busting longtails minutes from their bed and easy access to that dawn and dusk longtail bite. With the mothership just minutes away going back for breakfast or lunch prepared by our on board chef after a good session will give anglers a relaxing yet action packed experience. If you are interested in our mother shipping trips please email us for more information, rates and dates.
